VIRTUAL PROGRAMS

FUN-DAMENTALS OF RHYTHM

Students learning the essentials of rhythm and beat-making using their voices (beat-boxing), body percussion, and whatever they have at home (table, pencils, pots, and pans). By the end of the workshop, students will understand how 4/4 time works, how to count beats and bars, and how to build and layer rhythms by themselves and with their friends. All concepts will be taught through fun call and answer style games, exercises, and demonstrations.

Duration: 8-32 weeks, 2 hours per week

Group Size: 3-12 people

Ages: 5-12 yrs.

DANCE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA

Focusing on dance forms ranging from Salsa to Hip Hop to traditional West African, participants get a workout and a history lesson while learning a piece of choreography. Classes start with a personal check in and warm up, and end with a meditation and self-affirmation cool down. Emphasis is placed on mental, physical, and spiritual wellness. Open to all skill levels.

 

Duration: 8-32 weeks, 45-90 mins per class

Group Size: 8-50 people

Ages: 6-70 yrs. 

THE ART OF SONG-WRITING

Through a series of games, discussions, and exercises, students learn how to write a song. Techniques and concepts include using rhymes schemes, telling your story, rapping, singing, brainstorming ideas, and understanding basic song structure. Students will be able to choose from a folder of instrumental music to use as the backbone of their song. Each workshop cycle ends with an open mic performance.
